Kids movies are great aren’t they?
As well as having fabulous characters, usually a great score and full of laugh-out-loud humour, there’s always a underlying message, that even if children don’t get, most adults can relate to.
My absolute fave movie at the moment, which I enjoy watching over and over again with my boys, is Home.
One of my favourite lines from the film is “Can I come into the out now?” which the alien ‘Oh’ asks the human girl ‘Tip’ when he’s locked in a supermarket fridge.
Finding a sense of belonging is a theme that runs deep in this movie and that’s maybe why I like it so much.
I think each and every one of us can to relate to at the moment with what’s going on in the world.
But closer to home. I think many of us often struggle to find their place in the world. What fits. What feels right.
For two decades I threw myself into work. Most of my TV broadcast career was at the BBC as on on-screen reporter and presenter … being in the limelight is perhaps not the best job for someone who often seeks approval from others.
My career was a distraction for what I was really looking for… a loving family and a happy home.
So maybe why, when I finally found that, my career actually blossomed.
My priorities changed and work didn’t seem quite so important anymore.
A year ago I left my successful career at the BBC to focus instead on Story Of Your Day, which I’d started three years ago.
But working in another industry brought yet another quest to find my sense of belonging. Where I could fit in yet stand apart from the rest at the same time.
It’s taken a while to get to a place where I’m fulfilled.
Where I can confidently share my passion for storytelling and film-making with clients who don’t just want their wedding filmed but their story told.
Where I can help others bring out the best in themselves, whether that’s through wedding films, teaching and coaching and also through personal branding films.
And where I’ve learnt to blend a job I love with a family I adore.
So now after some excellent procrastination I am ready to share all of that with you.
