A Woman With a Camera Telling Your Story
“There is no greater power
on earth than story”
We all have a story to tell. Our life … where we’ve come from … and how we arrived here IS a story. Before I ask you to share your story with me, here’s mine.
My name is Emma and I’m an ‘audiovisual storyteller’. I’m also the Creative Director of Story Of Your Day, a multi-award winning destination wedding film company.
But I don’t think that defines me … I’m also a wife, a mum of two fabulous boys and and a gorgeous hound, called Harry.
We live in a Swiss ski resort, having moved here temporarily in 2016. But we all loved it so much we just never returned to the UK (apart from to visit family and film weddings of course)
I am a typical “Capricorn” and so that’s why I think I can be stubborn and I am a bit of a control freak but my friends interpret that instead by saying, I am tenacious and passionate.
That’s also very true of my personality especially when it comes to my career – one that I feel very blessed to have. My purpose and philosophy, as far back as I can remember, has always been fundamentally grounded in Storytelling.
For me, there’s something quite amazing about experiencing and feeling a story and then being able to retell it in a film
For most of my working life I almost fulfilled that passion working as a newsreader and video journalist at the BBC. But after twenty years I felt unfulfilled and a little ‘hemmed in’ and that’s when Story Of Your Day was born.
After just two years of combining a full time job as a TV journalist, filming weddings AND being a mum I decided to resign from ‘BBC Look North’ to concentrate solely on Story Of Your Day, which for me always was and is still, a more exciting adventure.
“Do not go where the path may lead,
go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I’m a slave to my business but I’ve never been happier and had so much freedom, I’ve travelled to fantastic destinations and met amazing people along the way.
The other thing I love about my job is having the opportunity to inspire other filmmakers as a ‘Women Who Photo’ Ambassador and being the only female wedding videographer to be recognised by Canon. I’m well-respected throughout the industry, frequently invited to talk at workshops around the world and also hold my own videography retreat. I’ve also been featured in the renowned U.S photographer publication, Rangefinder, as one of the main female influencers in the wedding film industry.
I recently made the commitment to film one ’Story For The Soul’ or “Passion Project’ each year, in order for me to give something back to a person, community or a good cause.
The first of these was the story of Frau Hodel, who, after thirty three years, was retiring from the village primary school where I live. I wanted to allow her to look back on her time with fond memories and a feeling of achievement. The film certainly made an impact on her and those she’d made a difference for in her long career.
I’m now planning next year’s … watch this space!
I hope you’ll agree with me, that I have a job which I love and allows me to say something, make an impact and make a good living.
NOW I’VE SHARED WITH YOU A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY STORY, I’D LOVE TO HEAR YOURS…
So you’ve decided to read some more …You’re obviously as interested in others’ stories as I am!Story Of Your Day is a much sought-after and multi-award winning wedding and event filming company based in Switzerland and with studios the UK.
As the Creative Director and one of Europe’s leading female wedding videographers I’m the chosen filmmaker for discerning couples from all over the world who don’t just want their wedding day filmed but their story told.
So my films are about people, places and their stories … and there just so happens to be a wedding taking place.
BEAUTIFUL. TIMELESS. CINEMATIC FILMS
I’m passionate about telling stories and bringing out the best in people. The thing I love the most about making wedding films is that no story is the same … from extravagant weddings at the Palais Garnier in Paris to intimate elopements with treasured friends in Tuscany and secret proposals in the Swiss Alps, I approach them all with the same enthusiasm and zeal.
What’s really important for me and what sets me apart from many other videographers is my background and how this influences my storytelling.
I draw on my 20 years’ experience as a TV journalist and filmmaker at the BBC, which also included being part of a Bafta award-winning team. I resigned in 2015 to spearhead the team at Story Of Your Day with my passion for storytelling and cinema.
Already a highly regarded wedding videographer within the industry, I’m now officially recognised by Canon and Sennheiser for my work and also the training of others in the industry.
