Nicholas (Nick) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) tied the knot in a glorious summer wedding at the stunning Hengrave Hall in Suffolk in June and it was a day where the guests didn’t hold back when it came to showing their emotions, not least the groom.
Hengrave Hall, near Bury St Edmunds, is a beautiful, romantic Tudor mansion with white timber panelling and crystal chandeliers and the most lovely, picturesque gardens. The couple chose it as they “kissed a lot of frogs before arriving at this Prince of a venue”.
Lizzie and the bridal party – Hannah, Lucy, Roberta and Kathryn – began their day with preparations at The Angel Hotel in Bury St Edmunds with hair and make-up expertly done by Leanne and Sarah at Team Glam. Lizzie looked simply perfect in her wonderful Suzanne Neville dress and we simply loved her hair styling.
Nick meanwhile, along with his best men Tom and James G and groomsmen Elliot and James C, got the day started at Hengrave Hall itself, before heading to the Church of St John Lateran
It’s always so touching when the groom is emotional and for me the most memorable moment was when Lizzie entered the church and walked down the aisle. Nick struggled to keep his composure as she walked towards him and again when he spoke his vows.
Bridesmaid Roberta’s reading of Song of Solomon 8:6 left many eyes misty too … Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.
The sun came out during the afternoon giving me and the photographer Rich Page the perfect opportunity to take Nick and Lizzie out to capture ‘golden hour’, the couple looked so stunning as the sun set behind them.
Evening celebrations got underway with their first dance to The Way You Look Tonight by Elton John.
It was a wedding that may never have happened due to a “couple of half-naked wrinkly fishermen”, a pair of “old Spanish ladies” and employment contracts that did not allow relationships between colleagues!
Nick and Lizzie met at work around five years ago but kept their relationship under wraps from the company for three years before they finally confessed all.
Later, when Nick put plans into action to propose during a sunset walk along San Pedro Beach while on holiday in Spain he ‘bottled it’ after spotting the fishermen drinking and shouting in the usually-deserted part of the beach where he had planned the perfect proposal.
Later his nerves were tested again when confronted by two “old Spanish ladies slurping the brown liquid out of their prawn heads” in his next planned proposal spot.
Luckily, he finally popped the question and the wedding at Hengrave Hall – full of humour, fine food and wine – was a fitting way to seal a fabulous relationship.
Story Of Your Day was delighted to be part of their special day and delighted to hear the feeling was mutual… read Nick and Lizzie’s testimonial here.
