Destination weddings in Sorrento: la dolce vita

by | Oct 22, 2019

“Located at the western gateway to the Amalfi, Sorrento is a town of lemons, high-pedigree hotels and plunging cliffs that cut through the heart of the historical core.”

Lonely Planet

Is there anywhere more romantic than a destination wedding on the Amalfi Coast?

In August this year, I made a return to Sorrento – an enchanting southern Italian city with breathtaking sea views – to film another beautiful couple’s wedding.

When Abigayle and Callum told me about their plans for a destination wedding at Villa Antiche Mura – a venue I knew well – I was so excited. I first filmed a beautiful wedding there three years ago, but more about that later…

Abigayle and Callum had explained why they wanted Story Of Your Day to capture their special day.

“From filming angles and frames to the editing of the final footage, I have to say you have perfected a lovely clean, crisp, true reflection of the moment and the beautiful surroundings and settings of each wedding I have seen,” Abigayle told me.

So, how could I resist returning once again to Italy…

Abigayle and Callum always knew they wanted to get married looking out over the sea, while standing in the sunshine and Villa Antiche Mura has it all.

It is a private venue in front of the sea of Sorrento, overlooking the Mount Vesuvius and the stunning bay of Naples.

A fairy tale Italian wedding venue. Stunning sea views. Golden hour sunsets. Warm breezes. Panoramic vistas. Love. Laughter. And Adventure.

Couples and their guests can mingle together in the sunshine, drinking wine and eating fine Italian cuisine, while admiring the views around them.

There were so many wonderful personal touches to their romantic day, too. A gorgeous flower arch, strumming mandolin and guitar players, sparklers, personalised gifts and wonderful vow books.

One of the loveliest moments was their wedding speeches – at the top of the stairs. I hope you enjoy their wedding trailer.

Their wedding took place three years ago to the month from when I had first sampled the Sorrentine air. When I filmed what is now one of my all-time favourite weddings.

That of the lovely Rachael and James.

The couple were married in Sorrento at St Francis Cloisters (Chiostro di San Francesco), a stunning wedding venue adjacent to the baroque San Francesco church.

SORRENTO WEDDING AMALFI

With its rustic decor, this peaceful and romantic open-air garden is a dream wedding venue. As I’ve seen it fittingly described, it is ‘an oasis of tranquility steps away from the historic town’s bustling central piazza’.

Rachael and James’s reception then took place at the Villa Antiche Mura. A wonderful occasion I am happy to share once again.
